There are many websites and articles online, a few of which you can access from the links below, that are extremely helpful in writing and using Positive Affirmations for different areas of your life. Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I'm giving you the "Cliff Notes" version of what they are, how to write effective ones and how to use them powerfully.
Affirmations are not murky, mysterious nor are they magic spells. They are not foreign to your mind either. You use them all the time, whether you are aware of it or not. Affirmations are the beliefs, learned thought patterns and self-talk we have used since we became aware of language. We affirm things all the time when we make statements of value, judgement or description. They include our automatic reactions to life around us. They include the dysfunctional and the ones that sabotage us.
If you want to change negative self-talk or situations in your life, use Positive Affirmations. Powerful positive affirmations are always phrased in the present tense, express a positive statement, have an emotional charge to them and are short and specific. For instance, use "I have financial abundance in my life" instead of "I don't want to be poor anymore". Or "My body is fit and healthy" instead of "I need to lose weight and get rid of ....".
Our subconscious is the creative power behind the words we use in our minds and mouths. When you use positive affirmations, two options occur for the subconscious in response to them: it wants to avoid or reappraise. If you experience a strong negative emotion or reaction to a positive affirmation, there will be a big gap between the affirmation and the perceived truth inside you. Good! That means you got your subconscious' attention! Positive affirmations help us to pay attention to what we are paying attention to.
In order to have them work powerfully and quickly, use them daily or several times a day. Write them down, say them out loud, sing or chant them. Look in the mirror at yourself when you sing, chant or say them out loud. You can also use a variety of subliminal products on the market. Whatever you do, do them, persistently, frequently and with an emotional charge behind them.
You will be surprised at how powerful a creator of your reality you are!
